Win back past customers — only the ones who said yes
Win back past store customers with Squad: group them by last order, contact only people with recorded consent, approve every offer, and see who was held back.
In short
- Past customers are often the growth you can reach with no ad budget, because they already know your product and your store.
- Squad checks consent person by person; anyone whose consent is unknown is held back and left out of follow-ups too.
- Messages and coupons wait for your approval, and the receipt shows exactly who was sent an offer and who was held back, with the reason.
Squad can bring past customers of your online store back with offers they agreed to receive. It reads your orders, groups customers by when they last bought, contacts only people with recorded consent and holds everyone else back. Then it shows you a receipt of exactly who was sent what, and who wasn’t.
Why start with past customers?
People who already bought from you know your product, your delivery and your prices. Reaching them again usually needs no ad budget, which makes a win-back campaign one of the few growth moves that passes a feasibility check at $0 spend.
That’s how it played out in one pilot scenario (simulated): a wedding equipment rental asked for paid Instagram ads, the check parked them because there was no ad budget, and offers to past renters who had consented took their place.
What do you need before you start?
- Your store. Shopify or WooCommerce, or Salla and Zid if you sell in the Gulf. Squad reads orders and customers.
- A channel. Klaviyo for email, or WhatsApp for messages.
- Where consent lives. The marketing opt-in in your store, list status in Klaviyo, or a file you upload.
- Your limits. The largest discount you’re willing to give, if you want to give one at all.
How does it work, step by step?
- Connect your store and channel. Read-only, as every connection starts.
- Group customers by their last order. For example: bought in the last 90 days, three to twelve months ago, more than a year ago. The bands are your choice, because a coffee shop and a furniture store have very different buying cycles.
- Run the consent check, person by person. Squad follows linked records — the same person in your store and in your email list — and looks for recorded consent. If consent is unknown, the person is held. Held people are also left out of follow-ups, so a second message can’t slip past the first check.
- Draft an offer for each group. A Copywriter drafts the message. If a coupon makes sense, Squad proposes the code and its terms, within the limit you set.
- Approve. Messages and coupons wait for your approval. If you use WhatsApp, Squad raises platform rules such as WhatsApp’s 24-hour customer-service reply window as assumptions you confirm, and plans around them.
- Measure. Repeat orders from these customers, read from your store, against a target and a window of 30 to 90 days.
What stays in your hands?
Who gets an offer, what the offer is, and when it goes out. Coupons and messages wait for your approval by default.
You also own the consent source. If a customer is held and you know they agreed, the fix is to record that consent where Squad reads it. Squad won’t contact someone on the strength of a guess.
How do you know it worked?
The receipt. The report shows how many offers were sent and how many were held back, with the reason for each person held. In the same rental pilot scenario (simulated), 38 of 40 offers were sent and 2 were held back because there was no recorded consent. A message with no delivery receipt from the channel is marked “needs your check”.
The number. Repeat orders, read from your store rather than reported by the AI. You can add a guardrail metric — for example, a discount total or an unsubscribe rate that must stay under a level you set.
Where it stops
- No contact without recorded consent. Unknown consent means held.
- No discounts you didn’t approve. Squad proposes; you decide.
- No legal advice. Squad lists the consent and messaging rules that usually apply to a business like yours as assumptions for you to confirm. Review them with your lawyer.
- An honest stop when consent isn’t recorded anywhere. If your store doesn’t capture consent at all, Squad says so, holds the campaign, and suggests how to start collecting it.

Questions
What happens to customers without recorded consent?
They are held. Squad doesn't contact them, and they are left out of later follow-ups too. If you know a customer agreed, record that consent where Squad reads it, and the next check will see it.
Can Squad create discount codes?
It can propose a coupon with its terms. Creating the coupon and sending the offer both wait for your approval.
Is this legal advice on marketing consent?
No. Squad raises the rules that usually apply to a business like yours as assumptions for you to confirm. Review your consent rules with your lawyer.
